TLR HISTORY

The Listening Room Cafe was born from a simple idea: Nashville's songwriters deserved a stage worthy of their stories. Founder Chris Blair — a singer/songwriter himself — built that space in Franklin, and word traveled fast. Music Row took notice, and the venue quickly earned its reputation as "the Bluebird Cafe outside of Nashville."

That reputation followed the cafe as it grew. A move to the historic Cummins Station in 2008 brought a wider audience and a deeper roots in the city's creative community. Then in 2013, a six-month build-out and a new address off 2nd Avenue. And in 2017, a final landing in the storied International Harvester Tractor building at 618 4th Avenue South — a fitting home for a venue with that much history.

Today, The Listening Room Cafe is one of Nashville's most celebrated live music destinations. With exceptional acoustics, an intimate 280-seat layout, and a menu built to match the experience, it's been voted Best Singer/Songwriter Venue multiple times over. Every night, the focus stays where it's always been: on the music, the writers, and the stories only Nashville can tell.
After four successful years in Cummins Station, Blair realized that the space needed to grow so he began a six-month build out in an up-and-coming neighborhood off of 2nd Avenue in the heart of downtown Nashville and moved again in February of 2013. As Nashville continued to become the “It City” and growth quickly took over downtown, Blair found out he had to move once again in 2017.

The move was not something that Blair wanted, but after months of searching he found what is now The Listening Room’s current home in the historic International Harvester Tractor building located at 618 4th Avenue South. The last show was played on a Saturday night on 2nd Avenue and the doors opened back up in the permanent location on 4th Avenue the following Monday. Our current location has proven to be a blessing in disguise as it has become the best sounding room in Nashville, holding approximately 255 seats while still providing an intimate listening experience for guests. Since finding our new home, we have been listed as a must-see spot and voted Best Singer/Songwriter venue in Nashville.
